Some Common Problems about Rcexl Ignition Timing

For the players who have played the RC airplanes, you must know about the ignition timing, while, what is it actually? Some players may have heard about it before, but they do not know how to set it or what role it plays in the process of the engine working.

What is the ignition timing?
In most of the airplane gasoline engines, we always use a gasoline or a diesel to support our model airplane. Ignition timing is refers to the process of setting the angle relative to the piston position and crankshaft angular velocity that a spark will occur in the combustion chamber near the end of the compression stroke. In fact, what we always talk about is not the ignition time, but the ignition advance angle.

Why we need to set the ignition timing?
Due to the fuel does not burn completely in the spark fires, during that time, the combustion gasses need a period of time to expand, and we set the great ignition timing is to make sure the fuel can burn completely and reach the maximum power. We should set a correct angle to help the fuel burn during the piston working from the start to the top dead center.

How to adjust the AGM 30cc gasoline engine ignition timing?
For most applications mounts the sensor with the mounting screws centered in the slot. The ignition timing is preset on the AGM-30 at 46° before Top Dead Center (TDC). The ignition timing can be advanced or retarded slightly by loosening the (2) ignition sensor phillips head screws and sliding the sensor to the full extent clockwise (47° advancing the ignition) or counter clockwise (45° retarding the ignition).

Be sure to retighten the phillips head screws after adjusting the ignition timing. Advancing the timing causes combustion to occur earlier, resulting in higher performance of the engine. However, advancing the timing also causes higher engine temperatures and can cause premature wear of internal engine components.

The purpose of the adjustment is to make the piston working in various conditions during the gas expansion get to the maximum, at that time, the gasoline engine can achieve the highest efficiency, minimal vibration and at its lowest temperature.
